Jeep's 2023 Grand Cherokee has been recognized for its safety by a leading testing institute.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for Institute gave the Grand Cherokee its "Top Safety Pick+" award for meeting stringent safety standards. The Grand Cherokee has 110 safeguard and security features. It remains the SUV with the most safety accolades.

"Achieving the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS is consistent with the Jeep Grand Cherokee's place as the most awarded SUV in history," said Jim Morrison, vice president of Jeep.

"The Jeep Grand Cherokee's singular blend of safety technology and extreme condition 4x4 capabilities affords our customers the level of driving confidence they deserve."

Grand Cherokee recorded the top rating of "Good" in four crash appraisals required for an IIHS TSP+ designation. It also earned an "Advanced" score in daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations and “Superior" ratings in nocturnal driving scenarios.

The 2023 Grand Cherokee’s premium LED reflective headlamp configurations attained an "Acceptable” score that improved to “Good" with high-beam assist.

Safety technology features include Automatic Emergency Braking and Full-Speed Collision Warning with Active Braking and Pedestrian/Cyclist Detection. Full-Speed Collision Warning detects a pedestrian or cyclist and determines when a frontal collision is imminent. If the driver does not respond, the system automatically activates the brakes.

Intersection Collision Assist detects vehicles approaching from a driver's left and right at a crossroad. It delivers audible and visual alerts when a collision is about to happen. If the driver does not acknowledge the danger quickly, brakes are activated.

Drowsy Driver Detection tracks vehicle motion and on-steering behavior for patterns of drowsiness. If detected, the system sends an audiovisual signal to the driver to stop the car and take a break.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is an independent non-profit organization. Its mission is to reduce the number of motor vehicle crashes and fatalities on roads.

Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick + designations are safety ratings for vehicles that perform well in their evaluations. IIHS also advocates for safe road policies and regulations. It uses its research to inform and influence legislation related to vehicle security standards, seatbelt use and other protective driving practices.
