The 2023 Dodge Hornet R/T has a potent plug-in hybrid powertrain, luxurious interior and a long list of standard safety technologies.

The Hornet has several performance features for late summer and autumn driving including 18-inch Granite Grey wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, Dodge-branded Brembo front-fixed calipers, dual exhaust pipes and steering-mounted paddle shifters.

Under the Hood

Dodge's first-ever electrified performance vehicle, the Hornet  sports a turbocharged 1.3-liter engine with 15.5 kWh battery energy. Combined output is 288 hp and 383 Ib-ft of torque that propels the Hornet R/T from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds.

The R/T model offers three hybrid driving modes: Hybrid, Electric and E-Save, which are valuable for summer driving.

The Hornet delivers a 30-mile all-electric range with an EPA-estimated combined rating of 43 mpg. Hybrid mode uses the gas engine and electric motor for fuel conservation – ideal for commuters and city drivers facing stop and go traffic.

Electric mode is designed for short trips around town; E Save mode helps long-distance travelers save fuel by prioritizing battery power over gas engine performance.

Comfort and Convenience

Standard amenities include a 10.1 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless charging pad and a 14-speaker sound system.

The touchscreen syncs to the latest generation Uconnect 5 system and comes with built-in navigation. An optional SiriusXM Travel link provides real-time traffic news for travelers looking to plan routes and avoid traffic jams.

With Amazon Alexa integration, drivers can use voice prompts for Uconnect 5 features such as radio stations and temperature controls. It allows motorists to keep their hands on the steering wheel and eyes on the road.

Over-the-air updates of the state-of-the-art system allow drivers to get bug fixes and access new features remotely. As a result, travelers can access the latest software updates before their next road trip.

Safety

Dodge Safety Suite has various features that help drivers and passengers stay safe on summer roads.

Features include:

  • Forward Collision Warning with Automatic Emergency Braking
  • Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection
  • Lane Departure Warning with Lane Keeping Assist
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go
  • Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • ParkSense Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist

The optional Intelligent Speed Assist system helps travelers stay within speed limits. It uses radar sensors and cameras to detect on-road speed limits and alerts drivers when speed is exceeded. It also helps when driving near other vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians.

Drowsy driving can lead to accidents while driving, a particularly prevalent problem on long road trips. To alter drivers who may be getting fatigued behind the wheel, the Hornet may be outfitted with Drowsy Driver Detection to detect and generate alert signals.  The feature uses multiple sensors to track closing eyelids, head positioning, yawning and erratic wheel movements.
